Dear Baby,
Hello, down there! It’s me, Mommy. You only have very small ears, so you can’t hear me very well, but I sing to you every day and pray with you too. I’m told that this week you’re about the size of a blueberry. That doesn’t give me much of a reference point as I’ve seen some pretty big blueberries and some pretty small ones. I’m just imagining that you’d be the smaller blueberry. After all, your Daddy and I were both small babies.
I wish I could tell you that you’re coming into a world that is beautiful and full of kindness, but I’m afraid that you’re going to be born into a very frightening place. There are so many bad things happening… People are killed for the religion, their race, their size. Even small people like you who should have a built in safety barrier of a mother’s love! There’s so much destruction, death, and misery that it breaks my heart. I’m not even sure if I’m going to be able to protect you from everything evil! In fact, I know I won’t… And that scares me.
But I do know a few things. I know that you are coming into a family that loves you so very much. I also know that you are coming into a family determined to show you Christ. And He loves you even more than I do! You see, little one, you’re coming into a world of sin as a person equally full of sin. It sounds like a harsh reality and I suppose it is. But there’s a miracle here. You’re still mostly a stranger to me. I don’t know if you’re a boy or a girl; if you’re going to be a ginger like Mommy or have your Daddy’s green eyes; if you’ll be into sports or want to spend your free time playing music. But God does. He knows you completely. I’m going to be praying to Him everyday for wisdom as your Daddy and I seek to raise you in accordance to His laws and ways. And I’m already praying that He will save you at an early age. I may not be able to protect you from all life has to hurl your way, but if you cling to the Rock, I know you will be safe.
I can’t wait to see you, my brave one! You are beyond precious to me. I love you with all of my heart!
Love,
Your Mama
